A native of Buffalo, New York, Paul Marszalkowski has been plying his craft internationally as a music director, vocal coach, pianist, composer, and arranger for the past ten years. He holds a Master's degree in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia.
Currently located in the sunny South, Paul is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre in the University of Mississippi Department of Theatre & Film.
Past Music Direction work internationally includes an actor-musician version of Return to the Forbidden Planet at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; new musical Under the Ground by Katie Barnett and Megan Hughes, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015; Showstoppers!, a benefit concert in Zambia which raised over $20,000 for charitable organizations; Swingin' Into Christmas, a big band holiday show; and AMD/Associate Conductor/Pianist for West Side Story at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
In the States, Paul works as the Resident Music Director of the Texas Shakespeare Festival, and has also recently served as the Resident Music Director at PCPA - Pacific Conservatory Theatre, where he led many productions including the west coast premieres of Newsies and Disney's Freaky Friday, as well as working with composer Brad Carroll on a revised version of his musical Lend Me a Tenor. In the past, he worked in rotating repertory as AMD and pianist with Weathervane Theatre in New Hampshire. Favorite productions there include Memphis, Next to Normal, Once on This Island, Avenue Q, and the regional premiere of Young Frankenstein.
Paul has been heard around the world as a pianist on the Cunard Queen Elizabeth and the P&O Britannia.
As a composer, his young adult musical Spirit has been performed multiple times by colleges, high schools, and regional theater companies in both New York and Wisconsin. Paul’s Theatre for Young Audiences adaptions of Treasure Island and The Emperor's New Clothes (with Kirsti Carnahan) and The Purple Marble (with Leo Cortez) have toured around California and the northeastern United States.
